Don't get me wrong,
Bahamas
Feelin Hot Hot Hot!

It is true to say that the Tories are partly to blame for what happened and it's not at the same time. Let me explain. When Cameron came to power in 2010 (after the election there was Hung Parliament — no absolute majority, but Tories won most seats. They formed the Cabinet in coalition with LibDems — 3d party at the time in the Commons, as they couldn't do it with their main opposition — Labour), the country's debt was high and the priority for them was to cut the deficit. (there is a difference in Government debt and deficit. Debt is a cumulative figure of the country's debts, whereas the deficit — is the excess the Government has to borrow on a yearly basis). Basically, Labour eff'd up the economy again and the priority was to tackle the deficit. In these years the Tories halved the deficit — which is quite an achievement. However — they did it through fierce austerity and cuts — cutting public services. They cut benefits, including for disabled, they withdrew child benefit from middle class and upwards families. I used to get child benefit — it was another universal benefit that everyone used to get regardless of income, now we don't (a good few years already). They cut policemen, firemen, they put more pressure on the state schools to achieve without giving them any extra money. They trebled the tuition fees in the Universities from £3,000 per year on average up to £9,000 in one go. But the deficit was halved. The thing with cutting policemen is yeah, that's bad of course. I still can't get it into my head how a man with a bomb could have walked through the gates of the Manchester Arena — it's massive, one of the biggest entertainment venues in the world It has the highest seating capacity of entertainment venues in the UK and second largest in the EU. How on Earth could they have such poor security arrangements there as to miss this bloody terrorist? Honestly, it's beyond me. It's a huge international music concert venue with lots of kids and teens attending pop concerts, etc - the security should have been at the highest possible level. But, to be fair — the Tories have invested a lot into our Security Services — MI5 and MI6, GCHQ, etc. And to be fair — there hasn't been a major incident in this country like this since 2005 (whereas in Europe we've witnessed quite a few.)
I am not defending May. She was the Home Secretary at the time of those cuts and does bear some responsibility. Also — the immigration went through the roof on her watch too. She is making lots of promises re immigration at the moment, but her record on dealing with immigration whilst she was the Home Secretary is not great. And she cut the Border Control staff as well at the time, which wasn't at all wise. Like I said to you already, I'm starting to go off May. Because of the Manifesto. We had high hopes for her, but what she came up with is utter rubbish and robbery of the middle classes. What happened to Cameron's pledge to raise the Inheritance Tax threshold limit of up to a million? And he said at the time that was only a start. This was partially what got him and the Tories elected back in 2015 — for the first time in 20 years (on their own, without the coalition I mean) - and now she doesn't even mention the issue. As for the Social Care for the elderly — yeah, something's gotta be done — but with a bit more brain than May tried it. In Cameron's Cabinet — they were looking at the issue but the idea they had was to limit what any family (with any income or assets) pays up - to £75,000 and to introduce Government finance based Insurance products, which would help people prepare for it. The insurance also would make up the difference in cost and pay for the poor — because most middle class people would take out the insurance on this (being prudent as they are), but by far not every pensioner would end up in a situation where they would be immobile or demented and need 24/7 intensive care for some 15−20 years (which would literally «eat up» all their estate, i.e. their kids inheritance). You see, it is starting to seem to me that Cameron was a smarter Prime Minister. I can't help thinking that, because the Manifesto she came up with is completely unpalatable to me.
P. S. I still think May will win the election and is probably the lesser evil out of the two (her and Corbyn) — especially where Brexit negotiations are concerned — BUT — her position is not as good as she hoped. Traditional Tory voters will never vote Labour, but I suspect quite a few will just abstain from voting altogether cause they don't like the economic and tax agenda she's got planned for us in the Manifesto.
