I would like to remind you that both Churchill and Thatcher were well known Eurosceptics, with Thatcher considered by many a symbol of Euro scepticism . Eurosceptisim here goes back decades.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euroscepticism_in_... Churchill in his time made the decision not to be part of the then European Economic Community, Britain didn't join till 1972 . With Brexit - I agree it is not about the traditional Left and Right as there are pro Euers and Eurosceptics amongst both the Labour and the Tories. It runs across the political structure and the establishment. But you can't say that the traditional Conservatives here are against Brexit. People like Bill Cash, Lord Lawson or Zac Goldsmith - have always been Eurosceptics and dedicated their lives to fighting the Brexit cause and always had a vision of the UK - friendly with the EU, but not bound by it. In fact Churchill's words were "We are with Europe but not of it". Brexit is not about isolationism, but just about a new arrangement with the European friends and partners, which will suit both.
Margaret Thatcher, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990, she was considered as a symbol of Euroscepticism. She was an opponent of the Maastricht Treaty, which signed in 1992

Cheep populism, usually offers - what feels good, not what is right.

Describing himself as “pro globalisation, pro immigration, pro market economics” he said that leaders needed to understand the calls for change.
“The simple truth is this; if we don’t address the problem of those who are economically left behind, we open up our politics to the parties of the extreme left. And if we don’t address the concerns about the pace of cultural change, we open up our politics to the parties of the extreme right.”
However, he cited political analysts who had discovered that if people said they were concerned about the changing makeup of Britain, and the fact that it was “going in the wrong direction,” that was a stronger indicator of a Leave vote than if you asked them about their salary.
He said it was now the job for politicians to acknowledge those feelings, and work to resolve them.
Это - what's happening at the moment is that the mainstream politics is harnessing the populism and becoming more pragmatic. The tragedy would be if the population's concerns continued to be ignored and someone like UKIP or BNP came to power. That would be tragic. One has to recognise concerns and act accordingly and not wait for things to blow up in their faces - like it happened in Germany back in the 1930s when they simply had enough and elected Hitler.

I agree with you. But this is what Founding Fathers (US) have found troubling. It is very dangerous for politicians just to follow what majority feels. You can quickly fall into German Fascism or French Socialism.

I understand where you are coming from, however - the mainstream right wing are managing the situation, and it is called damage limitation. Whether you like it or not, the kind of globalization that Lefties like you had to offer - did take off - and it was going well - during the "rich years" prior to the banking crisis, but the project - well, I can't speak for the States but the EU project - was badly mishandled and what is happening now is the adjustment. You know what "the adjustment" means , don't you? Life , politics, whatever - it is like trading - nothing goes in a straight line, there are adjustments along the way, corrections - you know. You see Trump and Brexit as utter collapse of everything good and liberal, I see it - as the necessary adjustment in order to make sure that the globalization goes right in the end.

I like it: collapse of everything good and liberal.
But we are differ in terms of projected results. You see - reason and necessary adjustment.
I see - lowlife ignorance and a wakeup call for everything good and decent.
