Grin (25771),

Belgium just scored a second bloody goal and it is not even half an hour into the game yet. They are making mince meat out of Brazil — the country who won the World Cup five times in the last 30 years. What did I tell ya? I hope you placed the bet on Belgium at the start of the Cup. If not — you are a mug (just joking)

P. S.
You probably don’t know what «a mug «means in slang,
Here is the meaning

mug is london slang probably cockney. as it is used mostly by londoners and people from essex. it means a stupid, gullible person. someone easily taken advantage of.

I was just joking when I called you a mug — please don’t get offended. I know men in Russia are very easily offended — it comes across a lot on this forum.

It depends on practice

Grin (25771),

What a game that was. Belgium are on their way to win this Cup, my prediction from the very beginning of the Cup still stands (although to be fair — it is not my prediction, I am just repeating like a parrot what my hubby and workmates have been saying to be honest.). England -a very young inexperienced team in terms of players' experience of playing together in the International Championships — Fifa World Cup, Fifa European Cup etc, the best players in the England team are from the Man United Club, which had a field day in its days, when Alex Ferguson was the manager, but not nowadays. So -taking that into consideration- they have already achieved a lot. I would love England to win tomorrow over Sweden and get into the semi finals, but beyond that — they don't really stand a chance. We already have two major teams that made it into the semis — Belgium and France. Russia v Croatia is not gonna be an interesting match, I mean one of them will make it of course into the semis but neither are a serious contender for Belgium or France. Belgium is gonna do it, watch them.

P. S. We are still having a major barbecue tomorrow — 4 families with kids including ours — to watch England v Sweden. What I am afraid of — is that if England lose, then everyone — especially the kids (especially the boys) are gonna be mega disappointed and everyone at the barbecue invariably will be trying to stay on cheerful and make an air like nothing happened, as that's the English way. But the kids will be devastated. I don't know why we are doing all this to be honest, but the arrangements have already been made, so there's no getting out of it. At the end of the day - it's only a football game.

On the way to the barbecue — God help us

It’s 3 hours to go till the start of the game. By the way — Harry Kane is not from the Man United club, but from Tottenham Hot Spurs — it’s a London club, one of the best ones, so maybe we are in with a chance.

Good luck, England- break a leg !!!!

YEahhhhh!!!!1 Football's coming home!!! You should see the streets of London right now — all the cars are beeping, the pubs are buzzing, it's a bloody amazing atmosphere! My oldest is absolutely hypo (hyperactive) with joy -we just came back from the barbecue and even though it's twenty five past 6 pm here — we are putting up a paddling pool in the garden (it's quite big) — for the kids to cool themselves down, as it is also the hottest day of the year here +33 C (the continuous heatwave has been going on for more than two weeks now with no signs of rain)

London feels like this right now

Grin (25771),

Nice to hear you cheering for England. Let's see what you are going to sing if Russia happens to get through to the Semis tonight, then it will face England in the Semis and believe me England will wipe the floor with you. You will probably turn Anglophobe again at that point. But for now — good luck to yourselves as well.

I am the same as you. I tend to assume the worst and hope for the best. If I am wrong, that's a bonus. I was really worried about this game — cause of my boys — Alex especially, as he has been going nuts over this Cup. In the unlikely event that England wins the Cup, he is going to hate me so much that I never took him to Russia to watch England play in the Cup, cause he got it into his head that because I was born in Russia it was somehow my responsibility to take him out of school and take him there. My relationship with him has been hard at times at the best of times to be honest — he is a very obstinate kid, he has an Irish rather than an English temperament — loves to fight — we had to put him into a private school cause he never got on well in a good state school -like Daniel does for instance. Had massive behaviour problems.
Anyway, I digressed.
Russia v England would be a very interesting game to watch. Let Russia win, good luck to you.
