At first I wanted to write my own opinion, but then I found out that other figure skating fans posted theirs

Overall, I was disappointed by the interview. He was after sensation and controversy and was superficial, while Eteri seems deep. He left incomplete answers and moved on. And we all know about Oklahoma or the health issues of Diana, this has been discussed a lot. Commenting the silly remarks of Zhilin (was that the name?) or Rodnina was also sensational. On the orher hand, it is probably good that she had the opportunity to answer the critics.

It was a long interview and I feel that I learnt less about her than from Ted’s interview. Ted is a better listener, made her feel comfortable, so she was more open. But here she was also very honest and didn’t try to say the right things, and I admire that. The only new thing I learnt about Eteri is that she doesn’t speak Georgian and doesn’t feel Georgian, because she has grown up in Russia. If she was a «politically correct» person, she would have said 50/50, I guess.

It was rather poor interview for a hardcore fan of figure skating, imo.

Guy like Pozner shouldn't have been trying to go after sensational or specific fs issues, because he simply doesn't have enough knowledge — he couldn't dig deeper, not to mention to pin her down on some inaccuracies, so it was instant gazing down at the notes and artificial smiling without true understanding of her messages.
He could make it great interview, if he either prepared really, really well with some solid help of some fs expert or journalist or by just holding on to general questions about life/philosophy, etc., which he did for last 10 minutes or so (another question is, if she would have wanted to speak more about those matters).

Generally, interviewing Eteri is a tough ask — the ladies fs is a delicate issue nowadays, plus she's tough and rather discreet person, additionally trying to protect her position in the sport. You would need an knowledgeable, smart and persistent sporting journalist to make it work.

P. S. I'm a lazy ass, I know it

I agree that it is terrible. But I have the feeling you aren't completeley aware what is going on there.
It isn't like Poroshenko is fighting Russia/Russian influence by opressing Ukrainian Orthodox Church. And it isn't like Ukrainians hate them. If nobody paid nazi thugs, nobody would harass Ukrainian priests.

But Poroshenko is brainwashing Ukrainians that he is somehow fights Putin by opressing Ukrainian Church. He does it in the same way USSR used to opress them. But western media are silent. More than that, some of them try to promote this shit. In my opinion it is disgusting. At least they should report that SBU is detaining Ukrainian bishops, conducting searches in their apartments, threatens to jail them etc.

I have been so dog tired over the last couple of weeks, it's unreal- all this waking up at the crack of dawn to run, then doing a day at work and coming home and sometimes not being able to go to bed as early as I would like — cause of the kids — my kids go to bed late — 10 pm sometimes. But at least when I come home — everyone is fed, homework done, kids relaxing (our nanny is great — she leaves at half past seven and everything is done). I used to run at lunch times before, but that is not an option anymore — so busy at work — I don't even take an hour for lunch — just shove some takeaway down my throat super quickly and that's that. But I feel great — I like being busy, it is just I need some relaxing weekends — where I just sit at home doing nothing but lazing around the house and the last few weekends were very nice, but very tiring at the same time. Well, as they say here «no rest for the wicked» and «such is life».

It sounds like their friendship is really great, like they are bouncing off each other. And they both sound so happy and positive. The only thing is American and Canadian accents are so annoying and crass sounding, unpleasant.

crass
[kras]

ADJECTIVE — INFORMAL, British
showing no intelligence or sensitivity.
«the crass assumptions that men make about women» · [More]
synonyms:
stupid · insensitive · blundering · dense · thick · vacuous · mindless · witless · doltish · oafish · boorish · asinine · bovine · coarse · gross · pig-ignorant · gross

My daughter sometimes after watching some youtube videos by American school kids starts imitating their accent and my husband says to her «Jesus, please don't, that is so annoying».

Well, to tell you the truth — I didn't watch the interview, just random bits — and from what I can gather — it is an interview for the general public rather than for some figure skating connoisseurs. We also have a show like that — well used to, it was called Parkinson — Parkinson was the guy who used to interview celebrities of all kind — starting from famous politicians, athletes, and ending up with film or fashion stars. He was also very old and he died a couple of years ago I think — in any case, his show doesn't exist anymore. She is kind of a celebrity in Russia, so it is likely that a wider public would be watching this and they are not into technicalities and all that. There are sports channels where sports commentators interview athletes, so for those fans it might be advisable to look out for those if they are bored with this one. By the way, over here no one knows about her. Well, out of my circle — for definite. Maybe some British figure skating fans know her / about her.

I'd say she is celebrity in Japan It's because figure skating is very popular there.

It is indeed a great shame that these human rights violations are taking place unnoticed by the world community and international human rights organisations. It is disgusting.

Here everyone is talking about Brexit more than anything else. At the moment it is in danger, and the Tories are in danger of splitting. Cause the Hard Brexiteers refused to support her dreadful deal, she went crawling to Marxist Corbyn, that is unheard of — to the Leader of the Opposition. And his Party (Labour) are in favour of Soft Brexit and the Customs Union, which the Brexiteers do not consider Brexit even more so than her deal. Today they showed on Sky News — watching it now actually, that many grass roots Tory members were publicly tearing up their party membership cards, saying that May is a dimwit and a traitor, etc. It is all turning very nasty.

I got to go now, speak later. Have a nice evening).

Many figure skating fans expected questions about her jumping technique. There are many debates about it in figure skating world. This kind of technique gives skaters some advantages on difficult edge jumps. Judges are ok with that technique. Her haters call it cheating.
In my opition it isn't cheating, but I will be okay if judges reward skaters with more risky «oldschool» technique with some additional points.

In 2018 95% of top ladies used newish jumping technique (not only Russian ladies).
There are plenty of vidoes on youtube «exposing» Eteri. But people who campaing against Eteri never tell you that everybody else nowadays use this jumping technique too.

To be honest I prefer newish techique more because you won't see the difference with a naked eye, but it helps ladies to be more consistent. Since Evgenia turned senior — clean and flawless perfomances became obligatory for top ladies. But 10 years ago you could rarely see two clean back to back perfomances from a lady.

There are plenty of videos on youtube «exposing» Eteri. But people who campain against Eteri never tell you that everybody else nowadays use this jumping technique too.

None of this was discussed in this interview.

Which one? There are zillions of them in London — South London, Cockney, posh, North London, etc.

No, I don't think they are funny, cause I am too used to them I guess. I have heard a hell of a lot of English accents in my life — American, Australian, South African, Scottish, Welsh, etc. — you name it, every accent under the sun, let alone those by foreigners like the French, Italian, etc. I prefer British accents of course — not just the accents, speech in general — it is much richer, more expressive, more sophisticated as a whole. Working class accents sound funny though. Some accents can sound incredibly stupid — like Birmingham for instance or West Country accents (this is where the American accent takes its roots).

That is because the interview was probably for the general public, who don't know the difference, especially if — as you said — one can't even spot the difference with their naked eye.

As regards her haters, don't take any notice, they are just jealous.

REally got to go now))
