It's a killer really.

Hi, you are off to Jamaica soon — I am so jealous (in a good way). We booked a week half term in Paris in October. We all wanted a city break in October — but my husband wanted to go to Zurich (Switzerland) and I wanted to go to Amsterdam — the kids haven't been in either of those cities yet, but have been to Paris a couple of times. But they want to go to Disneyland again and we had to oblige, cause all three of them have birthdays in October. We'll be staying in a lovely five star hotel in Disneyland itself.

P.S. Can't say I am overly excited by the prospect of queuing up for the rides at Disneyland (it is busy there this time of the year, as it is kids half term both in England and in Europe mid October), but we will have a couple of days in Paris itself as well (Disneyland is in the suburbs of Paris - in Marne-la-Vallée, ), so it is not too bad.

I went to Paris many times but never was in Disneyland in France. However I’ve been to Disney in Florida a lot. I’ve been to all the parks, including the water park. I have a lot of pictures, movies, posters and souvenirs like Tickle Bell etc. I hope you’ll have a wonderful trip and bring back a lot of memories. Remember to find time for yourself and your husband and spend some romantic evenings in the nice restaurants in Paris. Paris is the most romantic city in the world. Moi, j’adore Paris and le vin français and coffee and croissants. I am sure you’ll have a great time in Paris.

Thanks. I have been to Paris a few times myself, sometimes we went there just to see New Year or to spend a weekend — now and again. Don't get me wrong — it is not a bad place, but very overrated by foreigners. There is nout romantic about it («nout» — is the Northern British slang for «no»). I mean — it is always romantic to spend time with one's other half. What I am trying to say is that Paris is nothing special and after London — a bit disappointing. The crime there at the moment is rife. For example — you can't walk the streets staring at the messages and texts on your I phone /Samsung — any smart phone, cause it will be snatched. Not like in London — where everyone is just constantly walking around whilst being glued to their smartphones.
But I respect the fact that you have a soft spot for everything French, it is just you. And it is lovely.
We haven't been to Disneyland in Florida. When we went to visit my husband's uncle last time — that was four years ago now — we didn't go cause the kids were too little for it, my oldest didn't like the rides at the time and the littlest was scared of adults dressing up as cartoon characters. But Disneyland in Orlando is of course the best. Probably tons better than in Paris.
We have been to Disneyland Paris 3 times. What is good about it — it is always renovated and updated with the latest toy motifs. My kids are all in love with it now. For my daughter's birthday she is gonna have a «princess experience». Tinker Bell is one of her favourite princesses, Merida and Anna from frozen are the most favourite — cause they are ginger (redheads).

At the moment we are a bit fed up with EUrope and would love to go to the Caribbean, or Maldives or somewhere more exotic. But my mother in law is still in and out of hospital all the time, so my husband insists we go on holidays «locally» for the time being (locally — meaning not too far — so that he can get back to London in a few hours if needed — in case something happens to his mom). I was thinking of booking Maldives for next June, but he is against that, so it is likely to be either Portugal (Al Garve) or Tuscany (Italy).

I have to say that my mother in law doesn’t like anything French. It’s funny since her husband is Canadian French. I believe that her attitude towards the French is because of her relationship with her mother in law. I was told that she was rather nasty lady who criticized her own grandchildren for not speaking French.

I can’t say for sure why I love France… Maybe because our first trip together, when we were dating, was to Paris? Maybe because he proposed me at Notre Dame? I have so much beautiful memories about our trips to Paris. Long walks down the Seine, romantic dinners on the boat with French music (ils ont chante l’amour), passing views of the old city, la beauté de Notre-Dam, le mystère de la place du Panthéon. I am afraid that if I continue this conversation a little bit more, we will end up in Paris over our long weekend in Canada))

It's all of those things with you — BlueJay proposing in Paris, etc. But there is something else. Because France is far from you — you are in Canada, not in Europe, you tend to idealize them a bit. We see them every day in London — hoards of French, their accents in English don't always seem «sexy and nice», but sometimes — ugly and stupid. They are our closest neighbor but historically — Britain warred with them more than with anyone else. But — if the push comes to shove (it's a saying, an idiom — if the worst were to happen )— the English would always save the French — like in the WW2.
You are also very aristocratic in your perceptions and you speak the language, so there is a part of you that just appreciates the French spirit in general - their culture , traditions, etc.
Notre Dame de Paris — is an ordinary Gothic Church, with gothic vitrages (stained glass), many of which are much superior in any old Saxon village Church in Britain. It is just that in Paris — during the King Louis XIV (the "Sun King") , - they got rid of a lot of Gothic architecture and replaced the centre of Paris with the style of Baroque. (French classicism)., but left alone the Notre Dame de Paris. So it stands out as somewhat special. In reality — nothing special, such churches with stained glass here in England are a pound a penny (it's a saying meaning there's tons of them here).

you are in Canada, not in Europe,
